Galaxy stone and a glowing sphere in a late Mining Empire layer

Progression in Mining Empire is a staircase of break power. You feel it as a wall that suddenly dies. This page is the order of operations that sits under the tier list. If you only remember one line: never skip the tool that opens the next layer in order to stare at a million-dollar jackhammer you cannot fund.

Step 1 — leave wood on purpose

Spawn with the wooden T-pickaxe. Break gray stone, yellow cubes, white floor ore, and the bronze faces in the starter cavern shown in official thumbnails. The second a block takes multiple long swings and still sits there, wood is finished. That is your shop alarm. Players who “fall in love” with the icon tool are the ones who never see the cosmic layer.

Step 2 — buy the first shop pickaxe that changes the sound

Cavern screenshots show a cyan crystal head on a wooden handle. That is the visual language of the first real upgrade. Buy the cheapest tool that makes sticky stone pop. Then stay on that layer until gems start to look like a pile instead of a drip. Remember the April patch reduced gem drop amounts when tickets became 500. Mid tools exist to outrun that reduction. Details on spending those gems sit in how to get gems.

Step 3 — spend the April extras as keys, not collectibles

Three additional tools arrived with three additional layers and eight ores. That is a matched set. Each new tool is probably tuned to a new hardness band. Buy the next one when your current head starts bouncing, not because the shop portrait looks cooler. If two tools seem close in price, pick the one that lets you stand in a deeper biome. Sidegrades are how you go broke on this title.

Step 4 — jackhammer when the floor looks like space

The $1,000,000 jackhammer is for galaxy cubes, lattice spheres, and long Elusivium camps. Fund it with mid-layer gem loops plus a clan bonus, not with a desperate rebirth. A rebirth before this tool can still be correct if the shop on the other side returns you with a better head. It is incorrect if you rebirth broke.

Step 5 — lock the loop with auto mine

Once the tool matches the floor, turn on auto mine. Point the camera at paying stone. If you use a script, it still needs this progression; MineRequestEvent does not magically upgrade your head. Come back to this page after every patch that adds tools. April already proved the ladder can grow in threes.

  1. Wood until the first bounce.
  2. First cyan-tier shop tool until gems look real.
  3. April bridge tools as each new layer appears.
  4. Jackhammer for cosmic stone and trophy ore.
  5. Auto mine plus clan speed to pay the next ticket.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the questions miners actually type.

When should I replace the wooden pickaxe?

The first time a block takes an ugly number of swings. That is the game telling you the hardness band changed.

Do I need the jackhammer to rebirth?

No. You need a gem rate that can buy 500-gem tickets. Mid tools usually get you there. The jackhammer is for late layers.

Why did April 2026 add three tools?

The same patch added three layers. New hardness bands need new heads. Buy them as keys to those floors.
